Perfect Chemistry

Perfect Chemistry
By: Simone Elkeles

At Fairfield High School, on the outskirts of Chicago, everyone knows that south siders and north siders aren't exactly compatible elements. So when head cheerleader Brittany Ellis and gang member Alex Fuentes are forced to be lab partners in chemistry class, the results are bound to be explosive. But neither teen is prepared for the most surprising chemical reaction of all-love. Can they break through the stereotypes and misconceptions that threaten to keep them apart?

summary from back of book

My Rating 5/5

I loved this book soooo much! Evey time I think about it, I get all smiley and happy. This is just such an amazing story that will make your heart melt. I was already such a huge fan of Simone prior to the release of this novel and now I love her even more. Her characters are so brilliant and like Sarah Dessen, there's always something to be learned from her books that you take away with you. To me, this story really helped examine stereotypes and the labels we place on people without even truly knowing them.

This book tells you to look past that, to see the person who is really standing there. I loved the chemistry (no pun intended) between the two main characters Brittany and Alex. I could feel their connection, their adoration and love for each other even though they were fictional characters. They didn't feel fictional at all. Really it felt like I was being intrusive, peeking into two people's lives.

There was a lot to take away from this novel, one thing in particular being that no matter what you're handed in life, you can always turn it around and be who you want to be, not what others say you're destined for. I loved this book, and I have to stop gushing now before this review turns out to be pages long. In short, read this book, I promise you won't regret it.
