She is pretty and talented - sweet sixteen and never been kissed. He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future. And now they have fallen in love. But... they are brother and sister.
Seventeen-year-old Lochan and sixteen-year-old Maya have always felt more like friends than siblings. Together they have stepped in for their alcoholic, wayward mother to take care of their three younger siblings.
As defacto parents to the little ones, Lochan and Maya have had to grow up fast. And the stress of their lives—and the way they understand each other so completely—has also also brought them closer than two siblings would ordinarily be. So close, in fact, that they have fallen in love.
Their clandestine romance quickly blooms into deep, desperate love. They know their relationship is wrong and cannot possibly continue. And yet, they cannot stop what feels so incredibly right. As the novel careens toward an explosive and shocking finale, only one thing is certain: a love this devastating has no happy ending
summary from goodreads.com
This is what I call pushing the envelope as far as subject matter is concerned. I don't think I've ever come across a novel that's delt with this topic, especailly not in the YA genre. I know this book won't be for everyone but I enjoy reading books where authors have really gone there and tackled a subject that not many people will welcome with open arms. I'm BEYOND interested to see where Tabitha Suzuma takes Forbidden. Having seen a documentary or two on the topic at hand I know that there's so much to addresses.
Wow, this sounds very intense! I'll definitely have to check it out!
ReplyDeleteWOW! How interesting, I'm anxious to see how she presents such an intense plot!
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling this is one of those books that get high ratings because it's so intense, but doesn't really get recommended due to the subject matter and you only read once.
ReplyDeleteI actually added this one to my wishlist a couple of days ago. It definitely sounds very interesting and intriguing. I'm really looking forward to see how this story is developed. Can't wait! Thanks Michelle =)
ReplyDeleteOh wow that sounds really crazy! It sounds very interesting though. I think it'll be kind of uncomfortable to read, but amazing. Thanks for sharing! :D
ReplyDeleteUgh I can only find it on Kindle at Amazon.com...
ReplyDeleteI don't have, nor want, a Kindle.
Yeah, that sucks. :( Amazon.ca has it in paperback which probably doesn't help you lol. D:
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely be interested in seeing how the topic of incest is dealt with here.
ReplyDeleteI just finished How I live now by Meg Rosoff which also deals with the subject.
Intense!!
Yes I had a lot of fun. The waiting SUCKED!! but in the end it was worth it.
ReplyDeleteYou should check out Bee and Jacky by Coman. It's the same subject, although it's written in a way that makes it confusing sometimes.
ReplyDeleteThanks Britt, I'll do that! :D
ReplyDeleteI bought Forbidden on Kindle last week after discovering it on here. It is the most beautiful, heart breaking and emotionally draining book that I have ever read. I can't stop thinking about Lochan and Maya, and even a week after I finished reading their story I still cry when I think about the ending.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Michelle for mentioning this book on here, otherwise I might never have found out about it. I mentioned your blog on the Forbidden discussion group on Goodreads - http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/377876-introductions - I hope you don't mind!
BTW, just be careful if you visit that discussion group - a lot of the topics contain spoliers!!!
