One Lonely Degree
By: C.K. Kelly Martin
Anything is possible....
Finn has always felt out of place, but suddenly her world is unraveling. It started with The Party. And Adam Porter. And the night in September that changed everything. The only person who knows about that night is Audrey—Finn’s best friend, her witness to everything, and the one person Finn trusts implicitly.
So when Finn’s childhood friend Jersy moves back to town—reckless, beautiful Jersy, all lips and eyes and hair so soft you’d want to dip your fingers into it if you weren’t careful—Finn gives her blessing for Audrey to date him. How could she possibly say no to Audrey?
With Audrey gone for the summer, though, Finn finds herself spending more and more time with Jersy, and for the first time in her life, something feels right. But Finn can’t be the girl who does this to her best friend...can she?
summary from book
My Rating: 4.5/5
C.K. Kelly Martin is a very talented writer whose debut novel I Know It's Over introduced me to her incredible talent and world of characters. I went into One Lonely Degree with fairly great expectations and was not in any way disappointed. Although fairly simple in its premise, One Lonely Degree proved to be the kind of novel that I had great difficulty putting down and that crept its way into my mind at multiple intervals through the day as I couldn't help but wonder what was going to happen next.
This novel mainly focus on Finn as she experiences and copes with multiple afflictions in her life. There's Adam and the incident she won't speak of to anyone but her best friend Audrey. There's Jersy, a childhood friend who comes back into Finn's life and shakes things up quite vigorously as well as family issues and a summer that brings upon much change into Finn's life.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this novel and thought them to be very realistic and well represented. I find that C.K. Kelly Martin's characters are always well developed and honest as well as multifaceted and easily to relate to.
Overall: One Lonely Degree is a great novel that I feel many people will appreciate. If you're a fan of contemporary fiction C.K. Kelly Martin is an author you must check out if you haven't done so already.
