It's Not You, It's Me

It's Not You, It's Me
By: Kerry Cohen Hoffmann

Zoe loves Henry.

Henry dumps Zoe.

Zoe wants Henry back—at any cost.

Zoe’s two best friends come up with a plan to help Zoe get what she thinks she wants. The plan: make Henry jealous.

But the plan takes a surprising turn. . . .

Spanning thirty-one days in the cycle of a breakup, Kerry Cohen Hoffmann’s humorous and poignant novel depicts a girl whose single-minded focus on her ex-boyfriend has pulled her far from the person she most needs to win back—herself.

summary from book

My Rating: 3/5

I thought this book was alright. All the reviews I've come across have been pretty negative so I wasn't so sure what to expect when I started It's Not You, It's Me.

Zoe is the epitome of a crazy ex-girlfriend. All she thinks about is her ex Henry and how she can get him back even thought the feeling between the two is far from mutual. The entire book focuses on Zoe as she copes in the aftermath of the breakup. Zoe is clingy and obsessed which aren't the most flattering qualities. She doesn't know who she is without Henry but as the book progresses, she begins to realize more about herself and who she was before her relationship.

In some ways, I can understand Zoe's feeling. Henry was her first serious relationship so the fact that she is fairly heartbroken is understandable. She does however take things way to far. I guess that one of the biggest turn offs about Zoe is that she is in fact so clingy and reliant on her ex-boyfriend. Although, like I mentioned above, she does begin to see things clearly as the book draws to an end.

All in all, I really don't think this book was that bad. I'd say it's one of those books that you'll eventually read in time but aren't extremely eager to pick up. But definitely not as bad as I'd assumed.

  1. Nice review. With all the more bad reviews saying how crazy Zoe was, it has acutally made me want to read it even more.

  2. Yeah I definitely feel bad for the author that wrote this. Everyone is giving this a negative review. No one has said anything positive about it. It's good to know that it's not that bad of a book.
