I Know It's Over

I Know It's Over
By: C.K Kelly Martin

Pure. Unplanned. Perfect...
Those were Nick's summer plans before Sasha stepped into the picture. With the collateral damages from his parents' divorce still settling and Dani ( his girl of the moment) up for nearly anything, complications are the last thing he needs.

All that changes, though, when Nick runs into Sasha at the beach in July. Suddenly he's neck-deep in a relationship and surprised to find he doesn't mind in the least. But Nick's world shifts again when Sasha breaks up with him. Then, weeks later, while Nick's still reeling from the breakup, she turns up at his doorstep and tells him she's pregnant, and Nick finds himself struggling once more to understand the girl he can't stop caring for, the girl who insists that it's still over.

summary from back of book

My Rating: 4.5/5

I really enjoyed this novel-a lot. The situations in this book are in no way sugar coated but instead, are told straight forward through an extremely realistic point of view. The reality behind this novel is one of the things that I most enjoyed. It's real life and C.K Kelly Martin really writes it like it is. Nothing is cliche or underplayed, making this novel and the characters both gripping and relatable.

I'd heard great things about this novel and I was not let down. I highly enjoyed reading through the perspective or Nick, a male protagonist. I find that most novels dealing with pregnancy are always told through the female perspective which does make sense of course but reading through Nick's thoughts on the situation were just as startling and interesting as any female narrator if not more so.

Readers should also know that there is more to this novel than just a pregnancy. It does focus a lot on that but a large section of the book is Nick narrating his relationship with Sasha and how they come to where they are when the novel begins. There's also some conflict between Nick and his parents who are for the most part, newly divorced.

One other thing I really enjoyed which I guess is not as significant to all is the fact that it was set in Canada. I'm Canadian so it was nice to read about Toronto every now and then and I loved all the references to hockey. For once, I felt like an insider. It was just cool to see. ;)

  5. The City of Bones seems to be an amazing read. I will admit that I'm mostly reading it so I can read about Jace, the main character's love interest. xD... Everyone's seen True Blood but me! I heard about the books before the show and I found a challenge online to read them, so I thought I'd give it a shot, step outside my usual reading habits. I Know It's Over seems intense-do Nick and Sasha ever reconcile? and does she have the baby by the end of the book?
