Willow

Willow
By: Julia Hoban

Seven months ago on a rainy March night, Willow's parents drank too much wine at dinner and asked her to drive them home. But they never made it-Willow lost control of the car, and both of her parents were killed.

Now Seventeen, Willow is living with her older brother, who can barely speak to her. She has left behind her old home, friends, and school. But Willow has found a way to survive, to numb the new reality of her life. She is secretly cutting herself.

And then she meets Guy, a boy as sensitive and complicated as she is. When Guy discovers Willow's secret, he pulls her out of the solitary world she's created for herself, and into a difficulty, intense, and potentially life-changing relationship.

summary from book

My Rating: 5/5

There is nothing negative that I can say about this book. From the very first chapter I was hooked. The storyline is different and gripping, the characters are well depicted and well developed. It's one of those books that when you've finished it, you can't believe it's fiction and that the characters truly don't exist and are just fabricated. Willow is a fantastic read that just further enforced why I love contemporary fiction.

I find that books like this are always very inspirational. Even though I've never experienced what Willow is going through directly, I still walked away from this book feeling hopeful and like I mentioned above, inspired. Willow was everything I expected it to be and more. It can be very difficult for a book to live up to all the hype surrounding it but in this case, the hype was met by an extraordinary story.

I can't wait to read more from Julia Hoban in the future!
