The Summoning

The Summoning
By: Kelley Armstrong

My name is Chloe Saunders and my life will never be the same again.
All I wanted was to make friends, meet boys, and keep on being ordinary. I don't even know what that means anymore. It all started on the day that I saw my first ghost- and the ghost saw me.

Now there are ghosts everywhere and they won't leave me alone. To top it all off, I somehow got myself locked up in the Lyle House, a "special home" for troubled teens. Yet the home isn't what it seems.

Don't tell anyone, but I think there might be more to my housemates than meets the eye. The questions is, whose side are they on? It's up to me to figure out the dangerous secrets behind Lyle House... before its skeletons come back to haunt me.

summary from back of book

My Rating: 4.5./5

Wow, I really enjoyed this book...a lot! I'd never read anything with ghosts before, at least I don't believe so. Vampires... check, falling into dreams...check, but nothing to do with ghosts, seeing them, talking to them and so on. That being said, I loved the plot of this book. Kelley Armstrong is really creative. She threw things at me that I never saw coming which I love because I'm huge on plot twists.

One of the things I really liked about this book would be the main character Chloe. I've read a few paranormal books and I've noticed that the main female character can at times contribute to many redundant and cliche female stereotypes. What I love about Chloe is the fact that she's very strong and determined, she's confident and doesn't need saving. She's a very level headed thinker. In my eyes, she doesn't contribute to these stereotypes and that was really refreshing to see.

All in all, I totally recommend this series. Be sure to look for the second book in the series The Awakening soon to be released on April 28th, 2009
