Reviews

The reviews found on this blog are my own opinions that I have gathered while reading and mainly pertain to my overall enjoyment of the novel at hand. While I do not have a particular template which I strictly abide by, I do try my very best to be thorough and talk about particular elements such as character and plot in some detail. Reviews vary in length depending on the novel at hand seeing as on occasion I have more to say and vice versa. 

My Reviews are graded on a 1 to 5 scale the highest score attainable being 5/5. To see a detailed explanation of this you can do so below:

5/5: Loved everything about it. Sticks with me for a long while after I have finished reading it. (You should read it asap!)

4/5: Liked it a lot. Has many redeeming qualities and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. (Highly recommended)

3/5: It was okay. I enjoyed many parts of it but overall there was just something missing or it did not come together as I'd hoped. (Still recommended more or less)

2/5: Didn't like it. There was a lot missing, maybe the characters were off or the plot etc. (Take it or leave it)

1/5: Greatly disliked it. This is a rarity but I liked next to nothing about this book. (Not recommended)

Types of Novels Accepted

Michelle's Bookshelf is a blog that pertains to reviewing Young Adult Literature (mostly of the fiction variety). I am a very eclectic reader, open to multiple genres and sub-genres. That being said, I do have certain preferences and those include:

-Contemporary/Realistic Fiction
-Romance
-Paranormal
-Mystery
-Thrillers
-Dystopian
-Fantasy
-Historical Fiction

Series: I do not read novels in a series out of order. If you would like me to review a novel in a series that I have not read it would be preferable that the ones leading up to it is provided. This can be quite a lot to ask for so for simplicity purposes it would make things much easier if the novel being requested for review is nothing past book 3 in the series. Also, at times I may have not yet read the series in question but am very eager to. In that case I am likely more willing to undertake a series to review. If you have any further questions on series or need clarification feel free to contact me.

Format: A tangible/hard copy of the novel is preferred. I do not at this given time own an e-reader so for that reason I will only accept some e-books for review.

Types of Novels Not Accepted

Adult literature for review as this blog pertains only to YA

Middle Grade literature (an exception may be made depending on the age of the protagonist but overall, I do not generally accept Middle Grade literature for review.)

When I Accept a Book

If you have contacted me with a review request and I have formally accepted I can guarantee that the novel provided will be reviewed. I try my best to review in a timely fashion but cannot always guarantee that this will be the case. I can however ensure that the novel in question WILL be reviewed.

Novels sent to me without a formal acceptance from my end may not be reviewed on my blog at any time. It greatly depends on the novel. (For example: I have been sent Middle Grade literature that I have not gone on to review).

When the novel provided has been reviewed I will send a direct link to either the publisher or the author (whoever requested). 

Accepting a review copy does not guarantee a positive review. I do however always review novels in a constructive and polite way.

Emailing Me a Request: I try my very best to respond to every request e-mail I receive and in a timely manner. Sometimes however, it may take me a little while longer to get back to you due to time constraints and so on. In that case, I will reply as soon as I can.

Interviews

I am very open to conducting author interviews! If not familiar with the author and their work I do request that I be able to familiarize myself prior to partaking in the interview. That way, I am able to conduct a proper and well informed interview.

Blog Tours

I am also very open to the idea of participating in a blog tour! In this case however I request that a review copy be sent with enough time to read before the blog tour and such takes place.

Contests/Giveaways

I am more than happy to host a contest or giveaway on my blog!
